Tony Stewart confirmed today at a press conference at the Ford Performance Center in Concord, N.C. that he will begin his racing season on the dirt in Ocala, Fla. racing with his Arctic Cat All-star Circuit of Champions at the Bubba Raceway Park.

Stewart’s plan is to run all three races at BRP and then follow the series to Volusia Speedway Park where he may also race.

“I will be at Volusia but if I don’t run the races Christopher Bell will run the car.” Stewart said. “It really just depends on how I feel after running Ocala. I don’t feel like I need to run every race. Volusia is a fast half-mile so I’m not really sure if I’m in shape enough to run it or if I am comfortable yet…I feel like a rookie.”

Stewart says his schedule will be finalized shortly that will be made up of roughly 80 races that will feature many types of open wheel cars on dirt and pavement.

“There are some on the schedule this year that I feel like are big races, it depends on how we run early on. Some of the races that we are going to run soon I am very excited about because they are races I’ve never run before.”

Tony also confirmed he will race the Little 500 in Anderson, Indiana a pavement sprint car race that features some of the greatest open wheel talent in the world.

“It’s a 500-lap race the night before the Indy 500, it has been a bucket list race for me.”

However, Stewart said his plan is to not run the Knoxville Nationals in 2017.

“When you go to a race like the Knoxville Nationals I’m the type of guy who wants to make sure I’m ready to go and be able to compete when I go,” he said.

Stewart will find out early whether he is ready to compete in February in Florida.

“You know I haven’t been in a car for two-and-a-half years so I don’t know how long it’s going to take to get back in the swing of things.” Stewart said. "I don’t know if I’m going to be as good as I was before but it’s going to be fun trying.”
